Russian Family Robbed Of 8.5 Million At Barcelona Airport

These images show some of the EUR 8.5 million worth of jewellery that the Spanish police recovered when they arrested a group of thieves who stole it from a Russian family at Barcelona El Prat airport.

The criminals managed to escape with a briefcase containing exquisite jewellery estimated to be worth more than EUR 8.5 million on Wednesday, 2nd August.

The robbery occurred in Terminal 1 when the Russian family were reportedly distracted.

The thieves reportedly made off with EUR 20,000 in cash, a Chanel diamond brooch worth EUR 750,000 and another brooch worth EUR 600,000, as well as other valuable pieces of jewellery.

Thanks to the airport security cameras, the suspects and the car they used to escape, a blue Ford Focus, were identified.

Police found the vehicle circulating on the AP-7 motorway and arrested the suspects.

The Mossos d’Esquadra police force said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Luggage with high-end jewellery and money stolen from passengers in the check-in area of ​​El Prat airport.

“Thanks to the rapid investigation management, we located the vehicle in which they fled on the AP-7 at the height of Salt

“We arrest the two thieves and recover the loot.”

It is currently unclear why the family were travelling with such valuable jewellery.
