Homeless Man Rescued From Waste Container After Falling Asleep

A man has been rescued from the jaws of death after the waste container he had fallen asleep in was emptied into a bin lorry.

The middle-aged foreign national had been sleeping inside the dumpster on an avenue in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

Luckily, when it was emptied into the bin lorry, the driver noticed the man on the vehicle’s camera and did not activate the mechanism that compresses the waste.

Protocol dictates that before activating the hydraulically-powered mechanism, the vehicle’s camera must be checked to ensure that everything is in order.

The binmen then notified the Fire Department, with firefighters arriving on the scene to remove the man from the vehicle, local media reported on 19th April.

The last time an incident like this happened in the city was in 2020, when a young man was rescued from a bin lorry after spending the night in a waste container.

He suffered minor injuries to his legs.

In the latest case, the man also avoided serious injury, only sustaining a minor blow when falling from the container into the truck, according to the City Council.

Once rescued, the man, who is known to be homeless, reportedly complained that all of his belongings had been left inside the bin lorry.
