John Doe Severed Torso Found In Dumpster
A man’s severed torso abandoned in a suitcase in a dumpster has been found by a down-and-out searching for scrap to sell.
The horrified homeless man, who has not been named, discovered the case as he poked around the bin with a stick, say police in Barcelona, Spain.
He alerted a local tobacconist – also unnamed – and together they removed the heavy case when they made the grim find, according to reports.
The tobacconist later told local media: “The man was shaking, and he was like, ‘Don’t you smell it?’ But because I’m a smoker, I didn’t smell anything.”
He and some street cleaners called an ambulance, and paramedics confirmed they had found a human torso.
Mossos d’Esquadra – the Catalan police force – arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area.
The mutilated body part – which was reportedly in a bin bag inside the soft-shell suitcase with wheels – was removed from the scene by officials.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Mossos d’Esquadra is investigating the case.
Investigators hope to identify the victim – reportedly a white male – and determine the cause of death.
They are also scouring CCTV footage to see if they can find the person who dumped the suitcase in the bin.
A post-mortem examination of the severed torso is underway.
