Investigation As Lorry Hits Passenger Plane At Barcelona Airport
Authorities in Spain are investigating after a packed passenger plane hit a lorry during takeoff at Barcelona Airport.
The aircraft operated by Air Senegal collided with a lorry at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport in El Prat de Llobregat at around noon on 30th August.
No injuries were reported.
The Airbus A319-111 bound for Dakar hit the lorry with the tip of its left wing during pushback in preparation for takeoff.
The force of the collision left the lorry tilting diagonally, with the wheels on its right side suspended in the air, as seen in these images.
The 16-year-old aircraft was unable to fly due to damage sustained in the collision.
The passengers were made to exit the plane and were eventually placed on a new flight.
It is not clear how many were on board at the time.
The authorities are now investigating how such an accident could have happened.
El Prat Airport, which serves the Barcelona metropolitan area, handled more than 18 million passengers last year.
It is the sixth busiest airport in Europe.
