Frantic Search For Woman Who Fell From Med Cruise Ship

Spanish search and rescue are looking for a woman who was seen falling from a cruise ship into the sea around 75 miles from Majorca at around 2am on Sunday.

Spain’s Maritime Safety and Rescue Society is still looking for the woman with the help of two helicopters and a search-and-rescue vessel.

The woman has not been named but is described in reports as “middle-aged”.

The ship made its maiden voyage in 2000.

The Automatic Identification System showed that the vessel changed path to try to find the missing woman after she fell but then quickly resumed its normal itinerary.

Miami Maritime Lawyer Jim Walker wrote in a social media post: “Doesn’t seem that the ship made much of a search for the missing passenger?

“This story gets old, again no automatic man overboard system!”

It is not currently clear how or why the woman fell from the cruise ship.

According to the website cruisejunkie.com, prior to this incident, four people had already gone overboard from cruises or ferries this year.
