Troubled Shakira Splits From Gerard Pique
Shakira’s sister has revealed that the singer is “on the mend” following her shock breakup with former Barcelona star, Gerard Pique.
The Columbian superstar is presently facing the possibility of a criminal trial following a recent court ruling over her Spanish tax affairs.
After the celebrity couple announced their split over the weekend, Shakira’s sister Lucia Mebarak told reporters that the Colombian pop star is starting to recover from the heartbreak.
Lucia is visiting Barcelona from her home in Colombia after her elderly father suffered a serious fall last week.
William Mebarak Chadid, 90, was hospitalised in the Catalan city after the nasty tumble.
When asked about her sister, Lucia told local media that “she is on the mend”.
After being asked if the family expected the couple to split after Pique was allegedly caught cheating, Lucia simply said: “Possibly.”
She also revealed that her superstar sister is currently “out of the country”, but said she will return to Spain soon.
Shakira and Pique met shortly before the 2010 World Cup, which Spain went on to win.
After 12 years together, they share two children, Milan and Sasha born in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
The raunchy ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ beauty confirmed the split in a statement.
But she made no reference to claims that Pique had been caught cheating with a blonde student who works as an event hostess, as reported by local media.
Her statement read: “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Shakira’s latest song Te Felicto apparently hints at disharmony between her and the Barcelona defender, with lyrics including: “To complete you I broke into pieces. They warned me, but I didn’t listen”.
Last week, Miss BumBum star Suzy Cortez, 32, claimed that Pique sent her saucy messages behind his partner Shakira’s back.
Cortez said Pique sent her a series of messages between 2016 and 2018, asking how big her famous derriere was.
The Brazilian beauty told local media: “I was friends with former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell.
“When Pique found out, he asked for my number at that moment and sent me a message.
“When I returned to Brazil he sent messages directly to my Instagram, which was deleted every day, asking me when I would return to Europe and always asking me how big my butt was and saying that he was jealous of my tributes to Messi.”
