Rangers Dreams Dashed In Europa League Final
Glasgow Rangers hope of winning their first European title in over 40 years was dashed last night after losing on German side Eintracht Frankfurt in Sevilla last night, Wednesday 18th May.
An estimated 100,000 Rangers fans had descended on the Andulacian capital to soak up the Spanish sun and enjoy the carnival atmosphere before the UEFA Europa League final in the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Rangers scored first thanks to a goal from Joe Aribo in the 67th minute before Frankfurt equalised 12 minutes later.
The tie went to extra time and there appeared little to separate the two sides which went to a penalty shoot-out.
Rangers were allocated 9,500 tickets for the match and the rest watched the game on big screens the city´s other stadium – the Estadio de La Cartuja.
Together with the 50,000 German fans, the match is thought to have generated nearly €100 million in income for hotels and hostelry owners in Sevilla.
