Spanish Rail Strike Set To Continue
The Spanish rail operator Renfe has published a full list of services that will be running as the strike that began last week continues into this.
So far 892 AVE, medium and long-distance train services have been cancellations due to the strike which was called by the Semaf Railway Machinists Union.
The strike which began on Thurday 30th September is due to last eight days ( though on alternate days ) concluding on 12th October which is the national bank holiday celebrating El Dia del Hispanidad.
Of the 892 cancellations, 267 are long-distance AVE services and 625 medium distance services, in addition to 813 cancelled freight services.
In Madrid and other cercania commuter service there are full capacity peak time services and 75% for the rest of the day.
The strikers are protesting the reduction in the workforce over the last 18 months.
The Renfe management responded that the workforce reduction of some 700 rail staff reflected the fall in passenger numbers over the period and which has still not recovered to the pre-pandemic level.
