King Felipe Opens Mobile World Congress

Spain´s biggest trade fair, the Mobile World Congress has been launched this week in Barcelona.

The telecoms trade fair which brings the worlds biggest brands and innovation showcases was an early casualty of the pandemic – being cancelled in February of last year had been billed for a September 2020  return but had to be postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.

At the welcome dinner last night given in honour of King Felipe who opened the fair, the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, said that “this is a place and a time to connect our best ideas through cutting-edge innovation”.

After the year of the pandemic, the return of this international benchmark in mobile communications represents a hoped for return to normality, but it is a far cry from previous years with most stands placing a minimal presence.

The government is keen to support and show that Spain is open for business and with almost 16 million people already been fully vaccinated on course for the threshold 70% of the population vaccinated in order to have herd immunity from the coronavirus.

The 2022 Mobile World Congress is set for its return 28th February next year.
