Bus Driver Filmed Playing On Phone For Over 20 Miles
Video footage, taken by a startled passenger, has been released of a Spanish bus driver using his mobile phone while driving for a reported 20 miles.
The mobile phone footage was captured on a bus journey in the municipality of Segovia in the Spanish autonomous community of Castile and Leon at around 6am on 26th November 2020.
However, the Spanish Civil Guard only released the press statement reporting on the incident on 21st February.
The video shows the driver, who has not been named, apparently speaking on a call on his phone for some time.
He then watches a video and places the device next to his ear to hear it better as the road markings whizz by.
The Civil Guard said the driver was taking part in phone and video calls for a stretch of 33.2 kilometres (20.5 miles) and concerned passengers filmed him in the act before handing the footage over to the authorities.
The suspect is being investigated for reckless driving which could carry a prison sentence of between six months and two years. He could also have his licence suspended for one to six years.
The investigation is ongoing.
