A 19-month-old baby has drowned in the swimming pool of a family home in southern Spain.
The case was reported in the neighbourhood of Higueron, on the outskirts of the city of Cordoba, in the southern Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia.
According to local newspaper Nius Diario, the parents of the 19-month-old boy brought him to the health centre for treatment, saying he had accidentally fallen in the pool at their home.
The medical staff tried to revive the child for around an hour using the CPR manoeuvre and when he did not react rushed him in an ambulance to the Reina Sofia Maternal and Paediatric Hospital.
However, they could not save him and he was confirmed dead at 3.30 pm.
According to national news outlet Telecinco, the child’s death has activated the judicial protocol, which will involve an autopsy and investigation by the National Police Force to clarify the circumstances of the death.
According to a national report on drowning by the Royal Spanish Federation of Rescue and Lifeguard, ten people have died from drowning in aquatic spaces in the last month in Spain.
