Elderly Fugitive Briton Arrested On Historic Sex Abuse Charges

Spanish police have detained an elderly British citizen wanted by Interpol for sexually abusing his own daughter and other female family members in the UK between 1983 and 1995.

The 72-year-old fugitive will be placed in preventive detention in Spain as he awaits extradition to the UK following the first international arrest warrant to be carried out in the EU state since Brexit came into force.

The unnamed suspect was arrested at the residential complex where he lived in the village of Avileses in the south-eastern municipality of Murcia, according to the Spanish Civil Guard in a press statement issued on 21st January.

The operation to locate and arrest the man began when Interpol requested the collaboration of the Spanish Civil Guard.

According to reports, the man went unnoticed among the large British expat community in the area.

The fugitive had been on the run from the British authorities for several years and according to the official press statement, he could face life in prison for his crimes.
