Seven suspected paedophiles aged between 23 and 70 have been arrested by Spanish authorities as part of a crackdown on child pornography that was instigated following a tip off from the United States.
The police operation started thanks to the information received from the Homeland Security Investigations in the United States and involved raids on locations all across the country.
Two have been arrested in Malaga, while the other arrests were made in the southern Spanish province of Andalusia, A Coruna (northwestern Galicia region), Barcelona (eastern Catalonia region), Las Palmas (southwestern Canary Islands), Madrid and Zaragoza (central Aragon region).
They told Newsflash in a prepared statement that 7 people have been arrested and two are under investigations according to police who said that large amounts of IT material had also been seized with much of it containing paedophile content.
The arrested included a 55 year old man who was working as a sport instructor and that participated in several activities with children during the school time and in summer camps. This man, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested in Zaragoza and he was also found to be in possession of a lot of child porn material detailing criminal sexual abuse.
In El Prat de Llobregat, in the eastern Spanish province of Barcelona, a 37 year old man working as electrical appliance repair technician was also arrested.
In Barcelona, officers participating in the investigation found a picture of a boy who was a victim of sex abuse. Analysis of this picture were done and the victim was found. The aggressor was his own father who had died two months before and had a criminal record for robbery and drug trafficking.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, in the southwestern Canary Islands region, a retired man, aged 70, who was a collector of sex material involving teenage girls was arrested.
Two of the suspects arrested were linked in with the sale and distribution of child porn which they downloaded from different sources on the Internet and then repackage to hide their origins and make it seem as if the victims were no longer underage.
The new material was sold in the paedophile market.
The two suspects are a 23 year old delivery man arrested in Malaga, and a telemarketing commerce worker aged 40 living in Coslada, in Madrid province, in central Spain.
