Drugged Up Hit & Run Driver Kills Baby On Zebra Crossing

A 10-month-old baby being pushed by her mum in a pram has died after being hit by a driver who fled the scene and later tested positive for three different types of drugs.

The shocking incident took place in the town of Castilblanco de los Arroyos in the southern Spanish province of Seville yesterday.

The mother of the baby girl, named Manuela, was pushing the pram on a zebra crossing when the drug-driver struck.

According to local newspaper La Vanguardia, the driver overtook a tractor and a car that had stopped at the zebra crossing before then hitting the pram.

After hitting the pram, the driver reportedly sped off.

Emergency services tried to reanimate the baby who was then airlifted to the Hospital Virgen del Rocio in the city of Seville in a critical condition.

The little girl was still alive when she arrived at hospital, but died a short time later.

The police were able to identify and arrest the suspected driver, identified with the initials J.M.V.V., at his home.

He tested negative for alcohol, but positive for three different kinds of drugs, according to the police.

The police also confirmed that the man has a criminal record but gave no further details.

Local mayor Manuel Carballar shared details of the incident and called for a three-day mourning period in the small Spanish town of around 5,000 citizens.

The Spanish Civil Guard reminded residents that overtaking on a pedestrian crossing is illegal.
