Reckless Bathers Thrown Off Canary Islands Rocks

This is the moment a group of reckless bathers are thrown off some rocks by strong waves in the Canary Islands, leaving two injured.

The incident occurred in the natural pools of Galdar in Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands in Spain, where it is not advisable to bathe when the sea is choppy.

Two of the young bathers were injured. A 21-year-old woman ended up with five broken ribs and a punctured lung. The other 22-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

The events occurred on the afternoon of Monday 24th August.

The two injured young women are Spanish, local police of Galdar told Newsflash.

The Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived at the scene and found that the 21-year-old woman had several moderate bruises and had to be transferred to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

The other 22-year-old girl who only had slight wounds on her shoulder and was transferred to the Galdar Health Centre.

In the images, it is possible to see how the young people defy the waves, while the onlookers comment with concern about the recklessness of the bathers.

The force of the sea in that area is tremendous and the reckless young people did not seem to heed the precautionary recommendations. However, one of the bathers later complained that no one alerted them to the danger.

The reactions of the neighbours on social networks did not wait. One of them, Ivan Mendoza, published on his Twitter account: “Please if you don’t know the area where you are going to take the photo posing and then post it on Twitter, ask. You put your life and that of the people who are going to help you at risk”.

Later, the same user adds: “This time they escaped. Tomorrow you don’t know. Think of the people you put in danger to save you.”

Several residents of the place meanwhile called for the areas to be closed when there is a swell.
