A 19-year-old German tourist has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at a Spanish holidaymaker hotspot.
The alleged attack took place when the unnamed suspect was reportedly walking the victim home to the block of flats she was staying in, located in the resort town of Lloret de Mar in the province of Girona in the autonomous community of Catalonia in northeastern Spain.
Reports state the German tourist had spent the day with the victim, whose name and nationality have not been reported, and a group of friends when he was walking her home at around 10 pm on Friday 3rd July.
He is then alleged to have sexually assaulted her near the entrance to the block of flats before two of the victim’s friends arrived at the scene. The exact details of the assault have not been reported.
The three friends then began looking for help and they found a local resident who called the police.
The suspect was quickly identified as the friends had spent the day with him, and he was soon arrested by the Lloret de Mar Local Police and charged with sexual assault.
He has now been released but has been placed at the court’s disposal and can be called to give a statement whenever required.
Both the victim and the suspect have undergone forensic examinations and prosecutors did not request for the suspect to be kept in preventative custody.
The Lloret City Council has provided psychological attention to the victim and the investigation is ongoing.
