Dad Leaves Covid Intensive Care After 101 Days

This is the heartwarming moment doctors and nurses cheer a 63-year-old man as he is wheeled out of the ICU after spending 101 days there.

Marcos Gonzalez has reportedly been moved to a normal ward at the Hospital General Universitario de Alicante in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia after being admitted on 20th March.

According to local media, Gonzalez started to feel bad on 13th March, but didn’t go to hospital until one week later, by which time he was rushed to intensive care where he remained in a serious conditions for several weeks.

His daughter Paula Gonzalez said: “The first symptoms he had were fever and tiredness.”

Paula and her brother Marcos Gonzalez told local media that their dad is “a fighter” who has “battled in the ICU for 101 days”.

They also thanked the hospital’s staff for all their dedicated work treating their father.

According to Paula, the treatment underwent “many complications and steps backwards” and her father suffered heart, kidney and bacterial problems.

She added: “We spent the first 50 days without being able to see him, waiting for a call from the doctors. It is a very brave story.”

The 63-year-old father will remain in hospital while he recovers muscle strength and he will reportedly need physiotherapy when he returns home.

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, Spain has registered 249,659 cases of COVID-19 and 28,364 related deaths.
