This is the moment three turtles which had been caught in fishing nets are released back into the sea after recovering in a marine foundation.
The turtles had reportedly been caught by accident by fishermen in the municipalities of Benicarlo and Vinaros, both located in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia.
One of the turtles, weighing two kilogrammes, was trapped in a net and was suffering from pneumonia whilst another weighing 11 kilogrammes was caught by the boat Princess and was suffering from a moderate embolism.
The last one weighed 3.5 kilogrammes and was recovered by the boat Catalunya with no signs of illness.
The turtles recovered at the Oceanografic Foundation and in the video they can be seen being released onto a beach before they crawl back into the Mediterranean Sea.
Jose Luis Crespo, Head of Preservation at the foundation, told local media that the animals are an example of “resistance and strength against difficulties and hope for everything to be over and return to normality”.
Local media report the turtles were rescued thanks to the fisherman activating protocol for stranded animals with the emergency services after finding them stuck in their nets.
