Spain Medics Dance To Beyonce To Mark End Of COVID ICU

This is the moment medics perform a dance to Beyonce ‘Single Ladies’ to celebrate the closure of the hospital’s second intensive care unit as the rate of new COVID-19 cases drops in Spain.

The dance routine was filmed on 11th April at the Hospital General Mateu Orfila in the municipality of Mahon in the tourist island of Menorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands.

In the footage, a hospital worker holds up a sign saying: “We are closing ICU 2. Finally!”

Beyonce’s hit ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ plays as seven medics shuffle into view in protective gear and perform a fun dance routine.

Three dancers have signs stuck to their chest which read “goodbye ICU 2” when read together.

The clip ends with one burly medic performing a twerk next to a colleague.

A hospital spokesperson told Newsflash that the ICU 2 has 12 beds which do not planned to be used again, but will remain where they are in case the need arises.

The hospital’s remaining ICU has seven beds and is currently treating five people, the lowest number of critical patients since 25th March, according to the spokesperson.

A 64-year-old woman and 54-year-old man were both recently released which helped to free up beds in the busy ICU.

Spain has been on a nationwide lockdown since 14th March which is set to continue until 26th April, however Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, 48, has said he expects it to continue for at least two weeks past that date.

The country has been one of the hardest-hit by COVID-19, reporting the second-highest number of cases and deaths worldwide.

According to the latest figures by Johns Hopkins University, there have been 166,831 cases leading to 17,209 deaths in Spain.
