After The Balcony Singing – Balcony Cider Pouring

This is the moment a cooped-up Spaniard pours cider from his balcony down to neighbours who have their cups at the ready during COVID-19 lockdown.

The show of solidarity was filmed in Cimadevill in the city of Gijon in the northern Spanish region of Asturias, known for its traditional ciders.

In the footage, a heavyset man is seen pouring cider over his balcony to two neighbours below him who have their cups at the ready.

After the neighbours fill their cups, the man receives a round of applause from watching residents in the area.

Netizen ‘Eviscerador’ said: “Cimadevilla is a special place. I lived there for eight years and my grandparents are from that neighbourhood. It is one of the old ones, a true neighbourhood.”

‘Pedrocarabo’ commented: “Am I the only person seeing the virus potentially being poured into the glasses of downstairs neighbours?”

‘Missbickg’ wrote: “I need a neighbour like him right now!”

According to local media, the COVID-19 lockdown in the region has been nicknamed ‘considramiento’, a mix of ‘sidra’ (‘cider’) and ‘confinamiento’ (‘confinement’).

As of 24th March, the Spanish Ministry of Health has reported 39,673 cases of COVID-19 and 2,696 deaths.
