Teen Migrant Hiding Found In Car Dashboard At Spain Border

A 7-year-old migrant girl has been found hiding in the foetal position behind the glove compartment of a vehicle trying to enter Spain from Morocco without documents.

The incident occurred when the vehicle, driven by a Moroccan man and woman, was attempting to cross the Beni-Enzar border crossing between Morocco and Melilla, a Spanish autonomous city located on the north-western coast of Africa.

According to local media, border cops did not find anything suspicious while checking the boot and inside of the vehicle but found the woman’s behaviour strange.

She avoided eye contact and refused to get out of the vehicle, according to the Spanish Civil Guard.

The border cops then used a heartbeat detector to determine whether there was anyone else in the vehicle, which showed a positive result.

Officials searched the vehicle, eventually finding a makeshift compartment positioned behind the glove compartment.

The cramped migrant was found lying in the compartment in the foetal position with signs of dehydration and disorientation, according to reports.

The unnamed 17-year-old required medical attention before telling officials that she comes from Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa.

The vehicle used, which had Moroccan licence plates, has been impounded by the Spanish authorities, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the two passengers, a Moroccan man and woman, have reportedly been arrested and charged with human trafficking as the investigation continues.
