Franco Supporter Slaps Pro-Catalan Woman In Barca Protest

This is the moment a far-right supporter slaps a female pro-Catalonia demonstrator in the face during a street protest in Barcelona.

The incident took place during an organised demonstration on Sant Jaume Square in the city of Barcelona in the north-eastern Spanish region of Catalonia when a group of protesters holding far-right Franco banners clashed with supporters of Catalan independence.

According to reports, the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) were called to separate the groups during the period of unrest that followed the sentencing of Catalan independence leaders to between nine and 13 years in prison by the Spanish courts.

In the footage, a suspected far-right supporter with a scarf covering her face is seen hitting a woman draped in a Catalan flag in front of nonplussed police.

The woman runs after he to retaliate but is held back by a man.

The incident happened during a renewed wave of protests across towns and cities in Catalonia

Reports said that 80,000 people gathered in Barcelona on 27th October, according to the local police. Meanwhile, the Civil Catalonia Society who organised the event insisted that the number was closer to 400,000.

Reports did not mention if any arrests occurred during clashes between rival groups.
