A 20-year-old American tourist has died after reportedly losing his balance and falling nearly 40 feet off a cliff in Majorca.
The shocking incident occurred near the area known as Cala Deia, in Majorca, in the eastern Spanish region of Balearic Island.
Reports state the American national, whose name has not been reported, had been walking with four friends on the island when he separated from the group and began walking by himself around Cala Deia.
However, when he did not return from his walk that evening his friends alerted the authorities and firefighters began a search for the tourist.
A helicopter team and canine squad were involved in the search for the man, whose body was found at the bottom of a cliff the following day.
Local media report it is believed the tourist died after falling 12 metres (39 feet) down the cliff.
The Spanish Civil Guard have launched an investigation into the case, with an accident seen as the primary hypothesis. Investigators are also reportedly looking into why he separated himself from the group.
