Dramatic Air Sea Rescue off Spanish Coast

This is the dramatic moment an elderly woman tourist is airlifted from a moving cruise liner off the coast of Majorca in the dark after suffering a serious health problem.

The incident took place on the Costa Diadema dream-class cruise ship about 60 miles off the coast of Majorca in the eastern Spanish Balearic Islands.

The cruise ship was reportedly headed for Palermo, the capital of the Italian island of Sicily.

According to local media, the 88-year-old tourist suffered breathing problems and the ship’s doctor determined that she needed urgent hospital treatment.

The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society were called to the ship’s location and the unnamed woman was airlifted on board the helicopter Helimer 215 and flown to a nearby hospital.

In the video footage, the OAP is sitting in a stretcher on the ship’s deck as she is winched up to the hovering chopper with an accompanying rescuer.

She is then seen sitting comfortably at the back of the helicopter while appearing to be wearing an oxygen mask.

The woman was transferred to the Hospital Universitario Son Espases in the city of Palma de Majorca where she is currently receiving treatment.

According to local media, her condition is now stable.
